Hello!
I'd like to switch from KDE to Fluxbox. Can I now simply unmerge alle kde packages and still run all applications without errors?
Are the applications if installed while using KDE linked against KDE or something like this?

| It depends on the application. Something like Amarok won't run, but Firefox will. It also depends on how much of KDE you're going to remove. You need to check the dependency of the packages you want to use. |

| Just leave KDE. It won't hurt anything and maybe you'll change your mind again. I have KDE, GNOME, XFCE and a variety of window managers installed. I usually use KDE, but sometimes I'll use GNOME, or Fluxbox. It would be really annoying to constantly have to reemerge things and use a different set of apps every time I changed. |

to remove the top kde build (assuming that you installed the whole kde)
| Code: | | emerge -a --depclean |
to clean all unneeded depencies. Be sure that you check the packages, before hitting <enter>.
finally: run a revdep-rebuild to be sure, all deps are still met
the ugly way
| Code: | | emerge -aC `grep kde /var/lib/portage/world` |
Which removes all packages containing kde (and are log in the world file)..
| Code: | | emerge -a depclean && revdep-rebuild |
