With both these versions I am getting:
May 13 21:08:46 [chronyd] chronyd version V1_19 starting
May 13 21:08:46 [chronyd] Fatal error : Can't determine hz (txc.tick=5000 txc.freq=0 (0.00000000) txc.offset=0)
Works fine with the same configuration with 2.4.20-r5
The error is apparently to do with detecting some parameters used by the kernel - in earlier chrony versions, this had to be set manually, but V1.19 automate it and it worked fine up to -r2

I'm seeing the same thing. I tried setting the linux_hz and linux_freq_scale by hand, but it still exits with the error message you've listed. |

In the kernel, general section, set CONFIG_HZ to 100 (default is 200, help gives some details as to what this is), recompile etc and it will work. I have raised a bug against gentoo-sources about it, but have not had a reply yet.
