|
|
I am having a problem with k media apps.. if I launch amarok or juk in fluxbox, my system will freeze. I get a little graphics flicker at the clock, and i cant to anything but hard reset, CTRL+ALT+F4 or CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE wont work, the system pretty much freezes up. Both of these apps will run just fine in KDE. Does anyone know what might cause this problem? _________________ http://www.geekbin.net

Do other KDE apps work fine in fluxbox?
What are your USE flags for these packages? _________________ Desktop: AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice Core, 2GB PC3200, 2x160GB 7200rpm Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 2x320GB WD 7200rpm Caviar RE, Nvidia 6600GT 256MB

Other K apps like konqueror will work just fine, its a little sluggish, but nothing to complain about. These are the only 2 K apps that I am having trouble with. Here are the USE flags for both of them...
amarok..
Code: | [ebuild R ] media-sound/amarok-1.4_beta2-r1 USE="arts flac gstreamer kde opengl visualization -aac -akode -debug -exscalibar -ifp -ipod -musicbrainz -mysql -noamazon -postgres -real -xine -xinerama -xmms" |
juk
Code: | [ebuild R ] kde-base/juk-3.5.1 USE="arts gstreamer mp3 -debug -flac -kdeenablefinal -musicbrainz -vorbis -xinerama" 0 kB |

Is arts running? They may be getting upset if it isn't and refusing to start because of it. _________________ Desktop: AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice Core, 2GB PC3200, 2x160GB 7200rpm Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 2x320GB WD 7200rpm Caviar RE, Nvidia 6600GT 256MB

Well, I can startx with root, and launch amarok and it will work just fine. I launched ssh from my other box, and ran amarok on this one, and top showed me that X was taking 68% + processor, and flux was taking 32%+ processor... After I killall amarok, it will go back to normal. I am still very confused. I dont that that arts or alsa has anything to do with starting the application rather then when I hit the play button. (at least, thats when you get the errors about your sound server, when you hit the play button) _________________ http://www.geekbin.net |

The problem was just solved, for future reference, be carful of your choice of themes in fluxbox, the theme I was using was the cause of the problem. bunker-one-xpm and bunker-one are both themes you should not use in fluxbox. _________________ http://www.geekbin.net |

Too bad.. I like that theme
Switched and it's working perfectly now. Thanks _________________ ...And then stuff happened. |

Fluxbox has made many changes, I would stay away from the portage theme package and check the release dates of the themes that you use. The new problem I ran into was the "No background" bar at the top of the screen. It's was sure enough theme based too.. Weird, but themes are crazy. I am thinking about going with the new XFCE or maybe going with Ion3. Less problems. _________________ http://www.geekbin.net |

The bunker-one-png style seems to work fine. Have either of you tried it instead? _________________

I'm also having this problem, and the proposed fix works for me, too.

I find that Akregator also causes the same problem. This should not at all be happening! I'm submitting a bug report to Gentoo, then to fluxbox, because this sounds like a fluxbox problem to me. |
