|
|
Hello,
I have a Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9 motherboard. This motherboard supports SATA II (3.0gb/s) on the Nvidia nForce4 controller.
I have my drives plugged into these ports, but the kernel log tells me I'm connected at 1.5gb/s. The harddrives are SATAII as well.
I am using kernel 2.6.19-r5
Anyone know why I am not associating at the full speed, and how I might go about fixing this?
Thanks[/code]
Code: | # cat /var/log/kernel.log | grep -i sata

some motherboards have sata2 disabled in hardware. can you check your MB handbook to make sure thats not the case?
also look for a jumper on your drive.. some drives have that to limit to sata1.
another option is to try different ports. |

So simple I can't believe I missed it. The HDD's came shipped with a tiny little jumper that forced it at 1.5gb/s. Popped it out and voila. Thank you so much for the help. |

Thanks from me too!
I didn't even realise that jumper was on the HD until I looked closer! (On the Seagate 7200.10 it's a tiny half-sized grey jumper block that you could easily miss - It's so short you can see the actual jumper pins, so easy to assume it's not there at a glance! And the plate on the HD for the jumper block says - For Factory Use Only!) |
