I just followed the gentoo printing guide for the hundredth time...i cant seem to figure this one out for the life of me. I added some users to set allowed users, separating them with a comma because without that I was getting a quota limit reached error. Then I cleared out the error_log file and this is what I'm getting | Code: | cat /var/log/cups/error_log

Where can I set the LogLevel to "debug"? Maybe that will give me a better idea as to where I have to look. Thanks
EDIT: by the way, the printer was working fine when I tried out Ubuntu so it should work...

CUPS requires ghostscript-esp and won't work with ghostscript-gpl or ghostscript-gnu.
You also need hpijs but as you've looked at http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_5740, I expect you know that and have it installed.

yeah i"m already using that hpijs file form the linux printing page. I'm emerging ghostscript-esp now and unmerged ghostscript-gpl, but when I emerge -pvD world, something pulls in ghostscript-gpl regardless. Is CUPS pulling it in as a dependency?

finally got it to work, I had to install hplip with foomaticdb and usb flags. Wohoo!!
