ARGGGH! Need help with mozilla emerge and btns 6 & 7

I finally decided to emerge mozilla instead of running nightly builds and it is beautiful, but I have a problem. I use a Trackball Explorer and have (had) the two outside "finger" buttons mapped to navigate back / forward through my browser history.

Anyway, this works fine with the nightly builds from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org, but it does not work with my emerged version of mozilla. This is very annoying and any insight would be great.

To make this work I'm defining 7 buttons in my XF86Config-4 file with ZAxisMapping se to "6 7". I then run a xmodmap command:
