I'm working on a gateway laptop with an intel pro/wireless 2200b/g wireless guide. I've been using the gentoo-wiki guide... i merged ieee80211, wireless-tools, and the ipw2200 firmware (all of which being current as of feb. 1st.)

while merging ieee80211 I went through a slew of errors with the kernel config, then fixed them. it then told me to run two scripts. after the scripts, i re-emerged it and it was successful, but when i load the ipw2200 module, i get this:

Code:

WARNING: Error inserting ieee80211_crypt (/lib/modules/2.6.19-gentoo-r5/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko): Invalid module format
WARNING: Error inserting ieee80211 (/lib/modules/2.6.19-gentoo-r5/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko): Invalid module format

i'm not sure where to go...

Do not use ipw2200 and ieee80211 from Portage - use kernel version.

Hi,

just a hint:

To use the kernel versions you just have to activate them in the kernel configuration you do by applying

Code:

make menuconfig

Cheers,
Mark[/code]

already ipw2200 is from the kernel, and I was getting mixed messages about ieee80211, so i'll take a look at that. thanks.

I have edited my kernel config and recompiled a couple times yet.

If you previously tried to install drivers via portage, then they have altered your gentoo-sources. You need to re-emerge them to fix the problem. I would copy the .config from your /usr/src/linux to a safe location, then unmerge the tainted sources (emerge -C), delete the /usr/src/linux (rm -rf /usr/src/linux/*) and re-emerge the sources.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I gave up on it and just re-installed...I didn't really lose anything but time so that's alright. If I make that mistake I'll be able to fix it this time, so thank you.
