Hi all,
This is a fresh install from 2006.1 stage3 i686. I really need to get this system up & running as soon as possible, so please help me out!
All non-GUI related system packages were updated successfully (emerge -uDN world), but when I tried to emerge xorg-x11 and gnome, everything stopped at the following error of emerging x11-apps/xkbcomp:
Code: | then mv -f ".deps/xkbscan.Tpo" ".deps/xkbscan.Po"; else rm -f ".deps/xkbscan.Tpo"; exit 1; fi

Not only x11-apps/xkbcomp was having problems but also any package that uses XauGetBestAuthByAddr and XauDisposeAuth. I deleted /usr/portage, emerge --sync, re-emerged, upgraded, downgraded libX11 & libXau, but none seemed to work. Any ideas??? Thanks!

Install the gentoolkit.
then use revdep-rebuild, to see if anything is broken. |

First obvious thing to try, even if libXau is already installed:

I really appreciate for your helps.
Tried revdep-rebuild, everything seemed to be consistent.
Also tried re-emerge libXau and libX11 many times, but still the same error.
Any other ideas I can try? |

I have:
Code: | $ find /usr/include/X11/ -type f | xargs grep XauGetBestAuthByAddr
/usr/include/X11/Xauth.h:Xauth *XauGetBestAuthByAddr(
$ equery belongs /usr/include/X11/Xauth.h
x11-libs/libXau-1.0.2 (/usr/include/X11/Xauth.h) |

Ok, I've found the problem... It has always been these silly mistakes I make that drives me nuts
Like some people, I use different variables to manage USE flags. And one of the variables that I use to manage X related flags is:
Code: | X11="${X11_LIBS} X -dri freetype gnome kde truetype xinerama"
USE="${APP} ${DEVEL} ${MEDIA} ${NET} ${SEC} ${SYS} ${WWW} ${X11}" |
${X11} defined in make.conf really made a mess for compiling packages depending on libX11. Add a unique prefix to all custom variables fixed everything. I guess my servers never had this problem because they don't need X |
