EDIT: Please ignore, just got it working.

I can't seem to download your overlay with rsync via layman:
Code:

tripleseven ~ # layman -a r300-driver
* Running command "/usr/bin/rsync -rlptDvz --progress --delete --delete-after --timeout=180 --exclude="distfiles/*" --exclude="local/*" --exclude="packages/*" "rsync://rsync.sturmartillerie.org/mesa-cvs/*" "/usr/portage/local/layman/r300-driver""...
rsync: failed to connect to rsync.sturmartillerie.org: Connection timed out (110)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(107) [receiver=2.6.8]
* Failed to add overlay "r300-driver".
* Error was: Adding the overlay failed!

And when I try to ping rsync.sturmartillerie.org, that fail too:
Code:
tripleseven ~ # ping rsync.sturmartillerie.org
PING sturmartillerie.org (24.128.204.63) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- sturmartillerie.org ping statistics ---
13 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 11997ms

EDIT: Just going to sturmartillerie.org in Konqi works, btw.

Are there mistakes in the sourcecode (which is cvs, i know) or is the error my fault? I have the libdrm and the x11-drm cvs-ebuild emerged. Is that enough, or does i need the mesa and xog-server ebuilds too? I have an ATI X800XL graphic-card. My whole system is upo-to-date.

ciao && thx Paul

EDIT1: Well finally it works. I did nothing exepct an world update :-) . small Report:
Now I've th cvs (9999) -version of the xorg-server. mesa, mesa-progs, libdrm, x11-drm & xf86-video-ati. 3d works, glxgears says about 4000points. XV works with kaffeine (xine). KDETV now also work (fglrx-drivers crash alwas the whole system). The 3d-performence is not enough, WoW doesn't work. Also the packages are cvs, they run quiete stable. No crash since now (execpt the WoW crash ^^).

Hi all,

I finally found the time to install the r300 drivers :-). They work pretty good
Quote:
$ glxinfo | grep rendering
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
direct rendering: Yes

although I get that libGL warning.

Unfortunately, beryl does not really work, I have this quite famous "white cube" annoyance :-(!
Code:
beryl: pixmap 0xa000a5 can't be bound to texture
beryl: Couldn't bind redirected window 0xc0005d to texture

I tried to emerge all kinds of version of all kinds of packages, without success. If anyone has r300+aiglx+beryl(+xfce) working, I'd _really_ like to see the combination of program versions ;-).

Cheers,
R!tman

Install every package from portage tree (not form overlay) and it Just Works (tm). Web browsers are unusable though. Scrolling pages is painfully slow.

I seem to have the same problem. Probably an error in the sourcecode. "Try again tomorrow..."

Hmm... I'll try that. I already tried to install as few packages from overlay as possible. I guess the white cube bug is in mesa, therefore I tried to install only xf86-video-ati-9999 from the overlay. This doesn't build successfully without xorg-server-9999, which again doesn't build without mesa-9999. As I tried glproto-1.4.7 and glproto-1.4.8, I believe this doesn't cause the issue, although I read that in several locations.
It may also just be the driver, lets not forget about the error message in glxinfo...

Loading the portage builds doesn't work for me.

I'm now using svn builds for all xorg/mesa and beryl without any change.

The beryl forum states this problem has been resolved and to just do a search on their forum. I have to say this wasn't too helpful to me, as all the options (including downgrading glproto) didn't work.

Hello.

I was using Xgl with beryl up to now with my X700.

When I read in the wiki that aiglx would work now with that card and the open source drivers, I wanted to try it out. But I can't get it to work...

Here's my xorg.conf:

Code:

All I get is a black screen. No xorg. No direct rendering.

I have drm and radeon kernel modules enabled...

The log does not really give me an error message:

latest xorg-server cvs requires inputproto 1.4

Fixed. I've added the following ebuilds:

Code:
x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-1.1.4
x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.2.0 (requires xorg-server >= 1.2.99.0, i.e. git as of 1 November)
x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse-1.2.0
x11-libs/libXi-1.1.0
x11-proto/inputproto-1.4
x11-proto/xproto-7.0.9

I also added the new 915tex driver to the Mesa i810 driver build list, as I also have an Intel-based laptop.

Unfortunately, I cannot successfully emerge the latest version of xorg-server, since a Mesa-related change upstream has caused things to break.

As for anyone with XGL/compiz/beryl-related problems, I'm not interested in that sort of thing, so I can't help you. Sorry.

Enjoy.

I don't!

Damn. I was hoping it was mesa related.

Looks like an amd64 related bug. I checked it on my P3 laptop and it looks fine.

I wondered, why do we always need to remove the package before we can update the ebuild.

If the package is installed, I can't get the build to refetch the source and build again?

Works with the beryl svn builds, but not these?

TIA

Can someone with a working ATI X700 please post his configuration?
Depending on where I search I find different setups in xorg.conf, tried many, but none work for me with AIGLX.

I'm still on Xgl but would be very pleased if I could switch to AIGLX ;)

I have an R250. I have aiglx dri drm, etc working, but when I start Beryl-manager I get the infamous white screen after the beryl logo displays.

I'm running portage beryl, and the latest portage xorg-x11.

Has anyone gotten the radeon open source driver to work with Beryl and an R250?

I'm contemplating trying cvs versions of stuff.

I had compiz-quinnstorm running several months ago with XGL, but then emerged and lost it. I was hoping the open source driver would get me there.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
