hi,
how can i tell alsa/gnome to remember the sound-volume i have set? after every reboot everything is muted and i have to manually power it up

check /etc/conf.d/alsasound for
RESTORE_ON_START="yes"
SAVE_ON_STOP="yes" _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

hm - there was no file /etc/conf.d/alsasound
i created it - but it didn't change anything |

You need the init script found in alsa-utils.
Run
and add alsasound to you system startup using
Code: | rc-update add alsasound default |
That should fix your problem |

I like aumix better, until the alsasound init script gets fixed, that is.

I just did the above after reading the Gentoo Linux ALSA Guide
I had to recompile my kernel to include only sound support and no built-in alsa support.
maybe that's something you could try too. |
