hi
i've just see that fedora core 6 has a 2.6.18-xen enabled kernel
our distro has 2.6.16.28 in portage (that for mine... is bugged... i have to do 'ethtool -k ethX tx off' in every domU, otherwise udp traffic doesn't works, if i do a reboot on domUs, doesn't restart and the domU goes down in 'xm list', etc)
i'm currently using an overlay (doesnt' remember which, but is a 2.6.16.29 kernel and the xen-tools from the overlay, too)
i think that is bugged also (at boot, after local.start, it tells '/etc/sysconfig/xen not found'... taken from redhat?)
now i'm downloading the dvd edition of fedora because i think that xen support is much more robust on that distro (this is not the first release of fedora that supports xen), so i can
1) have a REALLY stable dom0 with fedora
2) using xorg-x11 in domUs (if i've heard right, fedora can use Windows and Xorg in domUs using framebuffer on dom0)
3) use gentoo on all the domU's (i love gentoo)
i need stability on dom0 because our machines will be located in a webfarm and i don't like call every 3 days the support and tell 'can you reboot the machine?'
but i'd like to have a gentoo dom0 too... (stable of course)
maybe some of the developers can focus on xen? i think that is a BIG project and that the business is moving to the virtualization technologies...
i think also that for a developer, it is not so difficult to grab the fedora sources / xen tools and adapt in gentoo
big thanks ![Wink ;)](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Intel 975XBX, Core 2 Duo E6600, 4Gb DDR2, 4x 74Gb SATA 10000 RAID-0, Geforce 6600 - /dev/mapper/isw_raid0: Timing buffered disk reads: 812 MB in 3.00 seconds = 270.30 MB/sec |

works very well. i'm now using a 2.6.18.6 kernel (taken from bugs.gentoo.org) and xen 3.0.4
i have 2 xen servers with 4 domU on one machine (1 of them is a windows xp running in HVM) and 1 domU on the other _________________ Intel 975XBX, Core 2 Duo E6600, 4Gb DDR2, 4x 74Gb SATA 10000 RAID-0, Geforce 6600 - /dev/mapper/isw_raid0: Timing buffered disk reads: 812 MB in 3.00 seconds = 270.30 MB/sec |
