Hi all,
I currently have an AMD Athlon-XP (Barton core). In the future I plan to upgrade to either the AMD64 or to a Intel Core 2 chip. Is there any way for me to start preparing for this right now? With clever compile flags and the like?

If you're switching from 32 to 64 bit, might want to go read that guide:

As for "clever compile flags," usually you'll just be employing whatever your processor is capable of, which you can check with:
`cat /proc/cpuinfo`
