Hi I have a really strange problem.
I have a problem with gentoo changing my date (and time) every time gentoo boots.
This results in me having to change the time and date back to something more reasonable (gentoo thinks it's July for some reason).. I don't have this problem when I reset date and time in bios and boot windows (if I pull the plug out of my computer, put it back in and boot with windows I still don't have the problem). The problem only occurs when booting gentoo.
I can't find where gentoo *s things up. It is driving me insain as kontakt show me * appointments in the future as current events.
Can some one please help me?

Regards Kronon.

Check if /etc/conf.d/clock is properly configured, also look in /etc/rc.conf for any errors, and if nothing helps
Code:
emerge ntp-client
rc-update add ntp-client default

than ntp will take care about setting proper time during boot.

checking /etc/conf.d/clock was the first thing I did.
It is set on local time. I haven't enabled any other valuable option in it.
Using ntp looks more like a workaround then a fix to me:( (thanks for the reply though).
Things work on my laptop and that one doesn't use ntp.
I would like my computer to work in a place withouth internet;).

So any other ideas?

Hmm. That's weird.
Did you emerge sys-libs/timezone-data ?
If not do it, and after merging issue
Code:

emerge --config =sys-libs/timezone-data-2007e

Also check if system syncs itself to hardware clock
Code:
 CLOCK_SYSTOHC="yes"

in /etc/conf.d/clock

Think that solved the problem. Atleast the date is correct now.

Thanks:).

Then it must be battery on your mobo - at least I don't see any other reason...

It's an nvidia a8n-sli 3months old.
So I don't think it's the battery.
Besides no problems with windows.

Hi,

I've got a similar problem on my notebook... I've got a new Dell Inspiron 6400 and the clocks keeps falling behind (hours). I'm not sure, but it seems to happen when I unplug it from the AC source and poweroff (overnight). I don't think I've got CMOS battery problems, since it's a new computer and I didn't get any bios-data corruption related messages (as I suppose it would happen if the battery was failing..)

Any ideeas?
