Hi, I'm trying to ssh from work into my computer but it's behind my parent's router. How can I tell the router which computer I am trying to talk to so I can continue the installation?
Thanks,

Thanks for the quick reply it's a linksys 4 port router. The router sits behind a motorola 4200 surfboard cable modem. |

Owh... I don't know how you can configure it.
I think there is a configuration tools for your router. If you have access to this tools, look for port forwarding. In fact, for controlling your computer, you might forward the port 22 from router to your target computer...
Sorry, but I can not help you more _________________ J'vous dis ciao !

The password should be "admin" unless someone changed it.
If you press the reset button on the router, it will put all default settings (incl. password) back in the router. |

I changed it, I just forgot what to. My dad reminded me. I also figured out how to do make it so you can connect to the ssh server. If you have a linksys click on "advanced setup" then "forwarding" then you can turn on several popular servers and make up[ to 5 custom ones. I added SSH and forwarded port 22 to my gentoo box. If you're not sure what your IP address is you can go back to "basic setup" click on "DHCP" then "DHCP Clients Table" and a window will pop up with a list. I was "Host6" I guess that's the one hardwired in for gentoo. |
