Okay, so this problem is really weird for me...

Gentoo seems to start fine, the network script goes through without error and gets me the correct IP address by dhcp. Once connected, however, I can't do anything with my network. I opened gnome's network monitor and saw that while I am continuously receiving packets, I don't send anymore than 35 or so (probably from the initial connection establishing). I'm not behind a router or firewall. I also know it's not my NIC card since it still runs fine in Windows and ran great in Gentoo until yesterday.

Yesterday, I noticed that I could not connect to certain addresses (like Yahoo's login page), but most web sites still worked. I was also still able to sync up portage and do an update on my packages. Today when I booted up linux, I got nothing, no websites, no rsync, I can't even ping other computers on the same campus network since I'm not sending any packets.

I would be very grateful for even a hint as to where I might start on this problem.

Running a mostly stable (a few packages with the ~x86 keyword) Gentoo box with kernel gentoo-2.6.18.

Problem went away after a kernel recompile.
