Hi all,
I have just got Orange Broadband with their wireless router and I can't seem to connect with Gentoo. I just wondered if anyone else had managed this and if so how? |

Here are a few more details, when I get home this evening i'll post more specific stuff. I use the rt2500 drivers and I ahve tried both beta4 and beta3. I previously had a belkin router setup to use wpapsk and aes which worked fine. The Orange Livebox doesn't have an option for aes so I used tkip instead (the only other options being wep or none which I don't really want to use!) I changed the .dat file for the rt2500 drivers so that it was set to tkip instead of aes, changed my passkey to the new one and changed the access point name. I also changed /etc/conf.d/net and changed the lines specifying the ip addresses ( I have also tried commenting them completely and using dhcp but still no luck).
If I use the gui supplied with the drivers it connects / disconnects every couple of seconds. I have read a few posts with similar problems and tried various different solutions but I still can't get it working. Any ideas? |

I've got a live box and I've had problems connecting with both Windows and Linux and my friend who has purely Windows also finds them hard work!!
I did some testing and logged into the live box and switched off the wireless security the made sure I could connect
Then I swiched security up to WEP and left it there as I could still connect, but WPA sucked and didn't work properly.

I have had no problems connecting to it from windows and even my wii but I think its the fact that only wpa tkip is available that is making it difficult with linux. If I have to I will plug my old wireless router into the orange one and do it that way but it seems like there must be a better way! |

I have just managed to connect to a livebox using wpa-psk and rt2x00usb for my D-link wifi dongle. I also have a Belkin that I have not managed to connect yet but have not spent much time trying since I have the D-link.
I used the default WEP "key" supplied with the box.
/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
Code: |
# The below line not be changed otherwise we refuse to work
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
# Ensure that only root can read the WPA configuration
ctrl_interface_group=0
# Let wpa_supplicant take care of scanning and AP selection
ap_scan=1
network={
ssid="Livebox-xxxx"
psk="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
priority=5
}

This was enough to connect but I seem to be getting some sort of quota limiting going on. If I start emerge --sync it gets stuck after about 30s without it reporting an error. I have to restart the process to get more files.
