|
|
hi all,
i wanted to emerge -avuD world today and portage want to install idnkit (new!) but it's blocking the updated version of bind. does anyone know, wtf is going on? for what do i need idnkit? bind is serving idn-domains well enough without some strange thing, that will block it:
Code: |
root@ns ~ # emerge -avu bind bind-tools
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[blocks B ] net-dns/idnkit (is blocking net-dns/bind-9.3.2-r4)
[ebuild N ] net-dns/idnkit-1.0 423 kB
[ebuild U ] net-dns/bind-tools-9.3.4 [9.3.2] USE="idn%* ipv6" 5,279 kB
[ebuild U ] net-dns/bind-9.3.4 [9.3.2-r4] USE="berkdb idn ipv6 mysql ssl -dlz -doc -ldap -odbc -postgres -resolvconf% (-selinux) -threads" 0 kB
Total: 3 packages (2 upgrades, 1 new, 1 block), Size of downloads: 5,702 kB
!!! Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be installed
!!! at the same time on the same system.
For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#blocked |
i will glad, if anyone can shed some light on this.
TIA,
marc

Try upgrading bind first. Bind prior to 9.3.4 is incompatible with idnkit. After you have the new bind, try to re-emerge idnkit.
Also, there is an idn global USE flag. You might see whether that's something you'd like to turn on.
HTH,

as you can see, i tried to upgrade bind and not "the world" . deleting and reinstalling is not an option. what about the "--nodeps"-flag of emerge? would this blow my box up, or does it "just work"? |

Sorry, for some reason I got it in my head that you were trying out idnkit not doing an emerge world.
In this case the solution is simple. Follow the link in the error message. It says to unmerge the offending package. In your case, unmerge bind then re-emerge bind: Code: | # emerge -Ca bind && emerge -uDNva bind | Obviously the change to 9.3.4 was big enough that it needs to completely redo the installation, not just upgrade.
Because it looks like a major change, you might want to research the new version to be sure you want it and wont have to do any major reconfiguring once you install it. I don't use bind myself so I can't help you much there.

deleting is not really an option, it's my primary nameserver for some domains. i am just wondering for what i do need the idnkit-thingie, because bind serves these domains well, and this was even before the useflag was introduced. |

More info on IDN. _________________ Please add [SOLVED] to your message title if you feel that your question has been answered.

EDIT: FWIW, now it installs with the idnkit. this reminds me of the time, when the xserver needs a new package but wouldn't install it, because two r-versions lower it was blocked and an upgrade without wasn't possible (except from using --nodepts and two compile runs)... |
