I did several searches both here and at google, but all I could find was howto's telling me how to get sound with certain laptops and various problems people had with their sound. I tried to narrow it down but couldn't find anything usefull. Not saying it is not out there though, if you got a nice link please post it.
My main question is, can it be done, if you know a way to do it or know where there is some documentation on the issue that would be great!
Ok, on to the question, I want: sound messages. I would like to have a sound message before or at the login. Assuming one can get sound here, can one make it generate different sounds depending on results? IE, can it check to see if the computer is connected to the network and give an answer depending on that? I would also like one before and after login (one for wrong password as well). And one when ordering to reboot.
I guess one have to edit the core and implement it there. I am no über freak with more knowledge by god, but nor am I the great n00b of all time. If you can help me out it would be great! The main question is, CAN it be done. _________________ Why settle for less when you can have the best?

okay... lets take the network connection stuff as an example:
sound in the console works without any problem. try (for example with alsa): Code: | aplay /usr/kde/*/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav |
now the only thing you need is to go and read the Gentoo Linux 1.0 Init System and write some init-scripts to play sound after the network is up: Code: | depend() {
need net alsa-modules
after alsa-modules net
} |
and in the start section you could play then a wav file or whatever you like.
cheers
