|
|
I ended up with this problem after an emerge world, amongst which an update to gnome 2.16. After su'ing to root in a user terminal, doing seems to start nautilus normally but no window shows up. No relevant error message, only this what I'm used to getting:
Code: | (nautilus:16067): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
|
I just realized the whole display/xhost/xauth/session thing Xorg and gnome are conspiring at is getting a bit of a chaos (most likely because I understand too little of it). For some reason my VT is now 9 and no longer 7 (ctrl-alt-F9 that is to change to it). The fact that I enabled aiglx and compiz in my Xorg.conf and tried those might have anything to do with it, although I'm not using compiz now.
When I log in as root nautilus works fine, and at least some other programs work fine too like gtktalog.
Who can help me out here? Thx |

Shameless bump since it seems I have this for quite a lot of other apps as well.
Or at least: how can I reasonably get more info so I can find things out myself? Nothing specific shows up at the moment. |

Indeed, thanks very very much.
As I understand it, it's a bug in nautilus so no need to enter a bug report specifically for gentoo. |

cool...
I don't think that this bug concerns only nautilus (gdmsetsup too) but gnome with dbus... I've already think about make a bug report but my english is too poor for this !!
