I am having some problems recording with mythtv. When I try to go to the program guide to schedule a recording I get:

You don't have any channels defined in the database
This isn't going to work.
Segmentation fault

Now the problem is there is no such service provided here in Jamaica to give that kind of listing where one gets the kind of info on programs that I think mythtv wants before it can schedule recording. Is there a way to work around this so I can record withouth the info? Everything else seems to work fine but I cant record.

So far I have figured how to use my xawtv channel settings to get something in my program guide. I can only see the names of the channels and the order they are in as listed by the xawtvrc file. The problem now is that I dont see any option to record specific programs. Is this done by a command form the terminal or something? How do you record?

Myth TV and FREEVO are much better....it gives you a listing of all your TV channels that are available to you.
http://www.mythtv.org/
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/

If you look at those you will like them a lot better than just using XawTV...

You can schedule recordings....that is what I'm trying to work on....But I'm having trouble setting up my ATI card. If you go to the other links from my previous posting....

My probelm with both is that they depend on tv listings. Here in Jamaica our cable service providers dont provide listings for the American channels they take their feed from. There is no way of downloading a listing like you do and knowing what will be in in the next hour or anything like that.. Is it possible to get MythTv to record a program without a listing?

I'm not sure...but I'll post here when I get mine up and running.

But it does list the channels...so I would assume it would.

From the MythTV documentation (Gentoo specific setup):
