|
|
I want to get a second hand video card to run XGL / BERYL. The minimal card which will work fine.
Wish list :
- card supports whatever is needed for XGL
- with open source driver
- does not cause too much load on cpu
What make / models are ok for my needs ?
(I'm thinking currently toward 3dfx/voodoo)
PC :
Pentium 4 1.7GHz 256 RAM
Gentoo linux
KDE 3.4 (going to upgrade to 3.5 soon and to 4 when it comes out) |

The ATi r200 driver is very mature and works with beryl without Xgl iirc, so any Radeon 7000 series card will work well. If you're not too concerned with using binary drivers any nvidia-drivers supported nVidia card will work beautifully and can be had for very little, again without the Xgl dependency. |

Edit :
ATI : http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
ok . . no support for RAGE cards ?
And . . . I look at voodoo's and think they are possibly what I need.
are they ?
I mean if : they work in linux, good (and i'd prefer open) drivers exist, BERYL requirements etc.
If yes then : what version is the minimum ? how much memory ? where to find drivers ? |
