|
|
Hi. Today I emerged Audacity, but it refuses to detect my audio card. I get this error : "Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate." I checked the preferences and indeed no sound card appears in the list. I tried running Audacity with and the result is always the same.
Everything else works perfectly, I use ALSA, OSS emulation works and so do 32 bit programs (I'm on amd64). My audio card is an Intel HD Audio card and I'm using modular ALSA (not the in-kernel one).
Any ideas on why this is happening???

That doesn't work... 100% of the other apps have no problems about arts running in the background, so I guess the problem is somewhere else... _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."

Audacity won't work with artsd, it uses the soundcard directly via portaudio. aRTS will lock direct access to the sound device, so that is exactly the problem. _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

I retried killing arts before running audacity, and I got the usual error. I then waited a while, restarted the program, and the error doesn't appear anymore when I play/record something. However no sound comes out of the speakers... I tried using all of the devices that appear in the preferences window, but no success..
EDIT: Reemerged audacity without ladspa & libsamplerate and it works!.
PS Is there any way at all of running audacity+arts?? Why do all of the other programs work fine??
Thanks for your help

Didn't the previous poster already answer your question?

Guess I formulated that question badly....
I meant: Is there any way at all to force Audacity to work via dmix (instead of accessing directly the audio card)??? There must be some way... Maybe _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."
