Hello,
I currently have a network in which I have a main file server running windows 2003 and a linux gentoo box for the dhcp and firewall services. My question is, is there anyway to make the dhcp daemon tell pxe clients to boot from the RIS server running on the file server. I got it working by making the windows server a dhcp server but I really want to keep the dhcp server on the linux box. I have looked everywhere and have seen tons of things on how to make Linux boot off of RIS but nothing about what I need.
Just to make sure you guys understand:
DHCP Request(PXE) -> DHCP server -> Tells client to connect to RIS box -> boots off of RIS
Thanks! |

you should take a look at what the windows dhcp server passes to the client, there could be a (nonstandard) dhcp option that microsoft uses. that would not be the first time.
if you do not find anything, maybe you should try to capture the frame that the MS dhcp server sends to a client and look in it. that should be possible with wireshark. |
