Hi Folks,

I just updated my kernel and now I`m having issues with time. I tried:

l
Code:
n -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Canada/Atlantic /etc/localtime (for Nova Scotia)

but alas it is still reading Mon Feb 16 13:57:02 AST 2004. So then I tried:

Code:
date 022410222007

Still being green to Gentoo I`ve concluded that the time is being updated via UTC, not Atlantic Canada. Does anyone have some advice on how to cure this problem

I should also mention my /etc/conf.d/clock is set to ``local``

kaptaincoder,

If you dual boot with Windows, set your BIOS time to your local time (from the clock on your wall) and your timezone to local. That waht Windows expects and those settings allow linux to co-operate.

If your system is linux only, set your BIOS time to UTC and your timezone to your real timezone, both in /etc/localtime and in /etc/conf.d/clock.

In either case you should run ntp-client and ntpd. Put them both in the defualt runlevel.
ntp-client does a one shot update of your clock from a timeserver (regradless of the error) ntpd keeps your clock right from then on in.
ntpd will not attempt to correct large errors.

There is an option somewhere (on by default, I think) to save the time to the BIOS on shutdown. If your clock loses time when your box is powered off, you need a new motherboard battery.
