(kde system sounds) knotify isn't notifying artsd

having a problem with my kde install... not getting any system sounds... i don't want to remove arts, so that is not an option... but it seems knotify is not telling arts when to play sounds...

i ran artsd the other day to watch the sound events come in, and the test sound button generates an event, and so do the test buttons in the system notifications area... but nowhere else generates these events... so my kde is in fact dead silent. :cry:

help!

i restart x and it's fine... :roll:

i'm keeping this open, its bound to happen again in a couple hours.
