Hallo!
Ich habe heute das Prog mozilla-launcher per Zufall endeckt. Leider finde ich nirgends nähere Infos was dieser launcher bewirkt? Kann mir bitte jemand kurz beschreiben für was dieses Programm ist?

mozilla-launcher hilft mit mozilla Programme. Es fingt all mozilla Programme (Firefox, Seamonkey, Mozilla Suite, Thunderbird, ...) an.
Es tut mir Leid. Ich kann dich nicht mehr helfen. Ich habe ein kleiner Wortschartz. |

was war das denn ^^ 
hmm, hab mir gerade mal den Quelltext angeschaut.
Scheint ein script zu sein, mit dem man die Mozilla-Programme aus starten kann (auch mit flags zu direkten schreiben einer E-Mail)
Wofür das ganze aber gut ist und warum man nicht einfach die Mozilla-Programme selber aufruft ist mir auch schleierhaft...

Dann müsste jedes Programm eine ausnahme für die Binary und die Source variante der Mozilla produkte implementieren. Durch diesen Wrapper, welcher ein auszug aus einem Mozilla eigenen wrappers ist, wird dies vereinfacht.
Der Hauptunterschied der source und der -bin variante ist ja der, das die bin variante nach /opt installiert wird und die Source-variante nach /usr installiert wird.
Dieser Wrapper setzt z.b. die Umgebungsvariablen und LD_LIBRARY_PATH so, daß das mozilla programm seine Libraries und Plugins findet. Und zum anderen ermöglicht so ein wrapper auch, das du z.b. beim browser eine neue Seite in einer laufenden Instanz öffnen lassen kannst. Und dabei musst du dich nicht drum kümmern, wie genau der eigentliche aufruf aussehen muss, da für dieses Beispiel ein anderes tool verwendet werden muss( mozilla-xremote-client)

Ich habe hier mal einen Thread von der gentoo-user mailing-list gefunden wo jemand genau diese Frage stellt.Eine eindeutige Antwort konnte ich da auch nicht finden,es könnte sogar sein dass es gar nicht mehr benötigt wird.

Nothing that I can tell....
It looks to me like the main purpose of Gentoo's mozilla-launcher was
to transparently support both firefox and firefox-bin (or mozilla and
mozilla-bin, or thunderbid and thunderbird-bin, etc), and to make sure
that new urls re-used an existing instance. Current firefox versions
seem to support this internally, and you end up with firefox or
firefox-bin installed in /usr/bin depending upon which one you
install. I don't see any reason why /usr/bin/firefox can't exec
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox and /usr/bin/firefox-bin can't exec
/opt/firefox/firefox.

As you have probably already seen, I added a small patch to the bug,
just in case the Gentoo devs want to keep it around.
