Old portage version

Hiya..
I have been used gentoo for some time now and is very satisfied with it. However it seems that may current portage version 1.8.8 wont update. So if I do a:
sudo emerge sys-apps/portage/portage-1.9.1.ebuild
it says
!!! ebuild sys-apps/portage-1.9.1 not found (possibly blocked by package.mask)
And that it does to any of the other versions of portage versions as well.
So my question is. Is this the current version?
If not.. How do I update this one.
Note:
I have done a rsync lately

# emerge rsync
# emerge sys-apps/portage
# emerge --update world
(then update your config files in /etc)

I had to use the rc6 -> 1.0 link :o)
