|
|
Hi,
I've got some questions about Samba and LDAP.
The environment I'm talking about are some labs with computers. Most of the labs are Linux only, but some have Windows. The computers are "shared desk". Users have a username and password. The authentication with the linux clients is no problem, but is it possible to get the windows pcs to authenticate against Samba and LDAP. Samba acts as a PDC. Do I have to get every Windows machine into the AD or is there another possibility that the users authenticate against the LDAP. I need a way with almost no complexity.
Thanks for answers!

AFAIK, with a samba PDC, any WinXP or any NT based windows box needs its machine name added to the password db as a user - Win95, 98, ME do not. It's mentioned in the samba docs. |

Thx for your reply!
Is there another way of just authenticating windows pcs with a ldap server? |

Samba can use ldap authentication, but I dont think that will get you away from having to add the machine_name as a user to the ldap db. |
