|
|
For the last couple weeks I have been unable to change my desktop background in KDE. I am not sure what happened to cause this, but I really want to be able to change it (I'm really tired of the one I have).
I usually change the desktop by right clicking on the desktop, then clicking "Configure Desktop" and then selecting a background via the background section. I am able to select a file to use (or any of the standrad KDE background), and the preview even shows up on the right side of the screen, but the background never actually changes.
Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this or clear out this setting entirely? I know I could probably delete ~/.kde, but I have a lot of settings that I don't want to lose.
Please help!

maybe you are trying to set the background for one virtual desktop only. try juggling on those settings ..
anyway. backup your ~/.kde and delete it and relogin.
try changing the background now.. |

Alright, a little looking turned up some answers.
1.) I knew the name of the background that was "stuck" on, so I ran the following command Code: | chris@coruscant ~ $ grep -R kubical * |
... which returned the file ~/.kde/share/config/kdestoprc
2.) I tried editing this file and commenting out the wallpaper settings, none of which worked.
3.) I moved the file kdesktoprc to .kdesktoprc, logged out, logged back in and now I am able to change my background again. I haven't noticed any adverse side effect, so I'm marking this solved ... hopefully it will help someone else. |

I had this problem before and I also had to delete kdesktoprc. |
