|
|
hi, i've just compiled gentoo on my new system and i have a "problem"
when i compile something (example: kde-meta) my CPU is 50% idle in top
and in make.conf at makeopts it is set to -j3
the processor is an intel E6300 core2 duo
in /proc/cpuinfo it is shown as 2 cpus
the kernel is configured for dual core cpu
uname -a shows corect cpu info
now my question is why it is used just 50% when compiling ?
i've changed makeopts to -j5 but the same problem, or it is normal to be like this ?

No, that's not normal.
Some ebuilds (like openoffice e.g.) force -j1 when compiling. Maybe that's the case with kdebase too, but I don't really think that. Are you sure your kernel config is correct? _________________ SiberianSniper: my girlfriend's name ends with .c

whell, in dmesg it detects 2 cpus, it is detected as 6300 ( that is the model )
the kernel is configured for intel core2, i folowed this:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Intel_Core2_Duo
and started 3 compiles at once, the same problem, it uses just 50% from my cpu
nice, same problem coz it finished to fast
it seams that one core is for other tasks, if i try to compile firefox and openoffice it is used 90% |
