Have a Debian Alpha 164SX machine which I am installing gentoo to another disk.
Installing from stage1
I have untarred the stage1 file and setup my make.conf and the like. When I run the bootstrap.sh script it starts ok, compiles portage-2.0.49-r13 merges it then gives me the following.
Recalculating the counter... Counter updated successfully.
>>> Clearing invalid entries in dependency cache...egrep: Unmatched [ or [^
wc: write error: Broken pipe
wc: write error: Broken pipe
wc: write error: Broken pipe
I thought it was a bad rsync, I have rsynced twice with 2 different mirrors, getting the same error., any suggestions? |

When I first was setting up my gentoo-alpha box, i was having similar problems, although wierder: I frequently got the 'broken pipe' error, it would fail at random different points, at one point it said it couldn't find 'rm'!
Long and short of it, I burned the 1st debian cd from another box, zipped through the installation, and started up. Lo and behold, my logs started filling up almost immediately with hd errors. Once I put a new hd in the box, it worked just fine. Perhaps it is a hd prob? |
