I've had samba working but now I noticed I can't use it

maybe it's some package I merged, but it's been a long time since I used samba for last time so I have installed a load of packages since then....
The only one I noticed something was VMware since it creates it's own samba or somthing... But I unmerged it, reboot, re-emerged samba and still same problem... |

I'm no expert, but do you have ldap set in your use-flags?
Then samba is compiled with LPAD-support, in which case you must have a sort of ldap-server.
You could try to reemerge it without the ldap-flag |

I though on doing that, but then I remebered I had it working and, without recompiling it, it stoped working....
But I'll try that... LDAP isnt important for a domestic LAN anyway....
