I've just tried out seamonkey. As a browser it scrolls up and down very smoothly and draws pages quickly. In addition the memory footprint seems quite small. The only resource that seems to be used extensively is the cpu during drawing of pages. I was of the opinion that the browser would be slower than firefox instead of faster than opera.
There are many features of opera and firefox which are not present, but certainly a browser worth looking at. Has anyone else tried it? |

ive had a go at it before, more specifically in my puppy linux days 
they released a version of puppy with seamonkey in it so i had a go back then (not sure about versions or anything)
but after trying seamonkey i still prefer firefox, my preferences for browsers are as follows
<insert 'perfect' broser here>
firefox
bon echo (just because it does the job and thats it, and its small and comes with gnome)
links
seamonkey
mozilla
opera
all others
internet explorer...
and the only reason links is up there is because its just so usefull at times of need (mainly when there is no GUI present )
i just dont get the same feeling from seamonkey as in firefox. i guess i just love all the nitty bits in firefox although it can take a while to start up in some cased (like my lappy, pentium 3 633mhz) in which case seamonkey beats it. but overall im a firefox boy.
but i love trying out new things so i may have a go at seamonkey again soon because it was 6 or so months ago when i tried it, things must have changed.. hopefully for the better

Just FYI: Bon Echo = Firefox 2.0 compiled from source without branding. Same program. |

are you saying bon echo doesn't really come with gnomes?
tbh, I just don't get the point of the Seamonkey suite. maybe if it was 1995.... but then it'd have a better name... Netscape Communicator. |

I've been using Mozilla (now Seamonkey) since before Firefox was even an idea. It can't be beat, simple as that.

Mostly I use Firefox, but I keep SeaMonkey around for Composer. Been using it since way back in its Netscape Communicator days and it's still the most comfortable WYSIWYG HTML editor I've found. Except for any ol' WISIMHIWIG* text editor like gedit or vim.

WTF does the year have to do with whether or not it's a useful piece of software? Or does it not matter how useful it is, just whether it's "cool" and "fashionable"? |

*sigh*. it is called an opinion. I don't use it, it's not so hard. I'm just stating that I don't see a need for such a piece of software.
imo, there are better alternatives, for each and every component in the suite (minus firefox). so i don't see a point in having such an internet suite.
ok? if you find it emensely useful, then STATE WHY so that maybe my opinion can change. hence the reason I stated it.
as the person above you stated, they like the composer part.. I understand and can appreciate that.
I said nothing about 'cool' or 'fashionable'... YOU put those words into the thread by assuming what someone else did not say. thats a bad characteristic to have.

| Seamonkey is very much not Netscape Communicator. Code updated from the mozilla suite is used. Most of the plugins people use for firefox can also be used with seamonkey. However, with all the extra functionality, the browser is more responsive than firefox. For example, scrolling up/down a long page. |

I'm using Seamonkey from time to time, but I do prefer Firefox for my everyday use. But some pages are noticeable quicker with Seamonkey than with Firefox, and I hate load times so for that reason Seamonkey is very useful 
I used the Mozilla suit before it became Seamonkey, well I've actually used Mozilla since some version in it's earlier releases
