As a disclaimer, I am very new to Linux in general and am not very skillful.
Last night, my laptop (a Sony, with an NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400) was on, booted into Windows XP, and asleep. It abruptly shut off, and when I attempted to turn it back on and boot into Gentoo, I received this message:
"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?"
I am unsure how X could be set up incorrectly since it was working fine before and I didn't change anything.
Here's the output:
"X Window System Version 7.1.1
Release Date: 12 May 2006
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.1.1
Build Operating System: UNKNOWN
Current Operating System: linux localhost 2.6.18-gentoo-r2 #8 SMP PREEMP
Build Date: 24 Jan 2007
Module Loader present
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time Sat Mar 3 21:38:30 2007
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found"
Since I really don't know what's wrong, I don't know how I should fix it.
Thanks for your help. |

Post the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Or better, upload them to someplace like http://pastebin.ca/ and then just post links to them here. _________________
