I have downloaded a livecd amd64 from a mirror in twente of netherlands.
I boot it with gentoo all-generic-ide because i have a jmicron topic motherboard.
Everything goes alright during configuring the installation but when i install it always gets stuck during portage installation.

has anybody had a similar problem?
if anybody knows how to help me please say how

thanks

For further information, in case it helps someone, during portage unpacking and specifically it gets stuck at the file portage/xfce-extra/metadata.xml

i know that it is not easy for me to find someone with the same problem since it seems to me like a hardware misfit but anyway i don t lose hope.

pinkcameloy,

The graphical installer is still in beta afaik.

If you go back to the handbook, and this time follow the alternative install (not the graphical, but where you enter commands at a terminal) you will be able to continue successfully.

This is what I use: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml

It will take you through the installation step by step. All you need is the minimal ISO or a live cd such as the Gentoo one or Knoppix.
