Sorry if this has been discussed before, I tend to use the search button and use every resource I know before posting on forums.
My problem is with a Acer Aspire 1650 Laptop.
The graphics card is a Mobility X300
I have followed instructions from Gentoo wiki and other web pages I have found but none of them seem to be able to solve my problem.
Every time I startx then fglrxinfo it comes up with MESA instead of FGLRX hence software 3d acceleration as far as I understand it.
Current Installed Versions
x11-base/xorg-x11
Latest version available: 7.2
Latest version installed: 7.2
x11-apps/ati-drivers-extra
Latest version available: 8.32.5
Latest version installed: 8.32.5
x11-drivers/ati-drivers
Latest version available: 8.32.5
Latest version installed: 8.32.5
sys-kernel/suspend2-sources
Latest version available: 2.6.19-r3
Latest version installed: 2.6.19-r3
I have recompiled my kernel several times rebooted into the new kernel then tried to add all the modules back in again.
My kernel config is
http://code.bulix.org/3gzyb1-40267?raw
and my xorg config is
http://code.bulix.org/3ghbqn-40268?raw
Any help would be most appreciated.

That is your problem, I think!
Try emerging the 8.33.6 Ati-drivers, and see if it works! |

- you should disable "Composite", and turn off "AIGLX". AFAIK, those things don't work with ATI's binary driver.
- uncomment Section "DRI"
You should always post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Not saying these things will solve your problem, but they jump out at me. |

right I've seemed to have sorted the problem out.
Basically I've done the following.
Recompiled the suspend2 kernel with agpgart and the chipset compiled as modules.
Installed the suggested 8.33.6 drivers.
poof the thing worked, tried to update the drivers to something a little more recent and it started loading mesa again, the log complained about a unrecognised symbol.
So my thanks to Evincar for suggesting the version to emerge.
Thanks Jesso for your suggestions however AIGLX is needed by beryl, I know thats not the only way to use beryl but it seems to work fine now that the drivers are loading correctly.
from what I can see the Xorg log wasn't showing anything of particular use at the time I asked the question hence I didn't post it, but I will in future just to rule me miss reading it.
As I said before I don't use forums until I am fully stuck, as I do ask my local LUG first and Google things but I am very happy with the response that I got from the forums and may infact hang out here to help others.
Consider this thread solved and admins do what you do with solved threads
Thanks all I'm now happy again, until the next problem that is...

You can edit your post and put "[Solved]" in the subject. |
