I'm trying to install gentoo on an Intel DQ963GS. Here is a link to the product spec. http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/DQ963GS/index.htm When I use the livecd, it attempts to build the dev folder and probes for USB devices, then crashes to the limited bash shell. I would post a log, but the machine doesn't get to a state where it can provide one. I've tried disabling all the bells and whistles like dma, acpi, etc.. Is there any hope of getting gentoo to install on this? |

telling from the hardware on that board it should not be a problem. did you try another livecd such as knoppix or even windows? if that doesn't work there may actually be something wrong with the board and you should look into getting a replacement from your dealer. _________________ Pentium M 740 on MSI 915GM SPEEDSTER-FA4, 2x512MB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 667 Memory, Zalman CNPS7000B AlCu, Samsung SpinPoint P120 250GB SATAII, Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500, Enermaxx Liberty 400, Antec P180

I know it's not malfunctioning hardware because I have multiple boards of that part number. I tried the latest versions of CentOS, Open Suse, Knoppix, and Gentoo - all to no avail. After doing a little more research, it appears some functionality was relocated on one of the chipsets and that this particular problem is coming from the onboard sata controller. using CentOS I was able to get it to boot using these kernel options:
Code: | linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf |
at boot. |
