I know you're gonna hate me for this question, but which of the ?terms (wterm, xterm, aterm, eterm, ...) do you think is best? I've been using konsole, but now I am looking for something new. Do there exist online polls on what people think is best? |

There's all sorts of interesting information about people's opinions around terminals, including polls, in Off the Wall. |

i've had the best results with urxvt (rxvt-unicode in portage). it's fast and actively maintained. it also supports unicode! _________________ website |

I use xterm just because it won't get messed up if I accidentally unmerge a library and it is really fast. _________________ Gentoo made my Toshiba laptop fast again!

uxterm - basically xterm -u8 so it handles unicode. rxvt isn't bad, and you can have it do some nice things with true transparency. Aterm is lighter (read smaller) and handles fake trans. Eterm I don't like (annoying to use).
So:
xterm/uxterm for general use
rxvt for its nice trans handling
aterm for small, fake trans
eterm is you are masochistic
konsole is OK
gnome-terminal looked like either an eterm/konsole clone
tilda can be handy (it starts from the, you got it, tilda key)
I could go on and on... _________________ The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner. |

I want to bring 'xfce-extra/terminal' in the picture ... before I was a happy user of rxvt-unicode but despite the 'unicode' in the name it never could display in elinks *all* characters from the UTF-8 test-pages like http://www.w3.org/2001/06/utf-8-test/UTF-8-demo.html. The support for xft-fonts is better as well - I could know use serif fonts without the ugly spacing I'm used from rxvt-unicode (and other terminal programs).

Hi There,
I'd not normally respond to a thread like this, but being a kind of
console lover in all the wrong ways, I'd just like to put forward
x11-terms/mrxvt. Unicode, tabs, profiles, transparency & fast.
Cheers,
thuk. |

Last time I've used rxvt, it looked similar to xterm in a way, but I didn't experiment much. Often when I look at screenshots I see a lot of eye-candy and it's easier to ask, then emerge everything and try. |

Personally I prefer Konsole. But urxvt is also pretty good. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

And very customizable, even antialias in fonts , I tried Aterm (nice one), Tilda, Rxvt, urxvt, xterm before mrxvt. Oh and it supports both pseudotransparency and real transparency. _________________ Your ideology seems to be: "I hate the fanatics, we shoud kill them all" juantxorena dixit. |
