problems :
when I browse the internet via any browser , it exist suddenly
the sound card , and usb , and VGA card noy installed yet , and
I dont know how to install them , I could Install the Wireless Card .
I dont sure if the xorg installed perfectly although I emerged Gnome , but I faced 3
problems through emerge Gnome , which are :
ERROR: x11-libs/vte-0.14.1 failed
"""configure: error: You must have freetype 2.0.2 or later to build vte"
"ERROR: x11-libs/vte-0.14.1 failed"
ERROR: dev-python/pyopengl-2.0.0.44 failed
configure: error: You must have freetype 2.0.2 or later to build vte
make: *** [udev_device.o] Error 127
but I could solve these problems .
when I make : emerge --search Xorg , It shows :

I believe the root of many of your problems, and an excellent way to proceed, would be to upgrade your kernel. You are running on the newest of CPU technologies on the market -- and your kernel and gcc are quite out of date. These new core2 processors have funky stuff inside them.
Are you doing a networkless install? Is there some reason your whole computer is ~10 months behind at least? It looks like your kernel was compiled less than a month ago...
Quote: | the sound card , and usb , and VGA card noy installed yet , and
I dont know how to install them |
sound can be configured using the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA). Look to the Alsa Guide from the Gentoo site for assistance.
usb
Code: | 00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB Host Controller (rev 80)
00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB Host Controller (rev 80)
00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB2 Host Controller (rev 80) |
I am not sure which version is relevant. I recommend paying looking through USB support in your new kernel sources. Worst case scenario, enable all UHCI, OHCI, and EHCI support and you should eek by.
VGA
Are you attempting to get video acceleration working in X, or is X not working at all, or do you desire to use the framebuffer at the console? Could you clarify?

when I make : emerge --search Xorg , It shows : |
Yes, but this information is useless. Quote: | emerge --search Xorg | searches the portage package database for packages with 'Xorg' in the name (ignoring case). The list is the same that anyone would get, and has nothing to do with your hardware or system, so it doesnt' help us at all -- no offense meant, just clarifying the command. _________________ Configuring a Firewall? gentooo_user,
Please post your output.
Theres a lot in your post that makes me want to say reinstall woth the correct tarball but I'm not 100% sure yet.
The waring sign is this snippet. Code: | my make.conf is :
CHOST="i386-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -msse3 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" |
Oh, and do you want a 32 bit install or a 64 bit install ? _________________ Regards,

It also seems that the kernel you are running is very old, possibly too old for your (fairly new) hardware. |

gentooo_user,
The problems with 64 bit installs have been almost completely solved. There are a few odd packages that present a challenge but even these are possible now. _________________ Regards,
