I am running Mozilla 1.2.1-r5

I cannot get Java to work. I followed the instructions in the forums. I got it to work with a previous version of Mozilla some months ago but not now. (I don't remember what version that worked). Not having Java is frustrating because I have a Webramp (SonicWall) router and I cannot configure it without Java.

I also cannot browse the NVDIA site. The menu buttons do not work in Mozilla (work fine in IE on Windows). Lately I noticed that I crash (locks up Mozilla and Gnome panels) when browsing NVDIA's site.

When I got to AmericasArmy and the page fully loads, Mozilla closes and I am put back to the desktop.

In general Gnome panels lock up and I have to shutdown gdm and start over. Recently I had to reboot the computer (ouch!). The Gnome panels seem to lock up while I am browsing. Today I noticed Mozilla and the Gnome panels locking up a lot but instead of shutting down Gnome I killed Mozilla and that seemed to clear it up.

OK. So I have all these problems with Mozilla. Is Firebird any better? (I know it is only at v .6). Is Mozilla 1.3 better? Why is it masked?

Are all these issues somewhat typical for Mozilla on Linux? Should I expect better?

Thanks

The java version that works with Mozilla is:
blackdown-jre-1.4.1 or blackdown-jdk-1.4.1

also if you want Flash to work in mozilla do this:
emerge netscape-flash

restart mozilla and you should have flash.

To see what plugins are installed for mozilla click on the Help menu then click on About Plug-ins

I hope this helps

1.4.1 works if you compile Mozilla yourself

you need 1.3.1 if you use a binary version

Just add "+java" into your USE flags and reemerge mozilla - that should do it.

Java is enabled in /etc/make.defaults but reemerging didn't do it. Is there a way I can see which USE flags are active?

I did emerge Blackdown myself and that did fix my Java problem. I have never hada Flash problem. That always seems to work. So mozilla only works with Blackdown?

On the NVIDIA site the horizontal list of buttons at the top are not aligned properly. Some are lower, like in the next row. On IE when you hover you get a menu. I used to get the menu with moz but couldn't select the menu items. Now I do not even get the menu and mozilla/gnome panel is locked up right after the site loads. When I kill mozilla I can run again. In fact I was typing this message and checked out NVIDIA and had to start over. Doh!

Thanks for all your help. I have Java running again and can access my router!

Is 1.3 nay better than 1.2.1? Why is it masked?

Thx
