Hello all,
Made an attempt at installing Xgl with Beryl, fallowed the Gentoo-Wiki as best I could, and I still cant seem to get Xgl to show. It seems that Beryl will work fine, just as long as Xgl can catch up. I log into the computer and type in "startxgl". The final result when it is done loading is that the Desktop is still 2d, with Beryl running (red diamond is in the top-right corner or screen). Here is a copy of my Xorg.conf file...

I think that if I can just get AIGLX and Composite to stay disabled, I will be in the clear. Please, let me know what I am doing wrong on this, any and all help is much appreciated, thank you in advance. Will include Xorg.0.log in next post.

Still the same problem. Xorg.0.log errors are the same as with the old Xorg.conf file. Right from the beginning, I can see the things which I think need to be disabled are enabled.

Check the your kernel configuration :
1. No DRM
2. Intel chipset (AGPart), hard compiled (I don't think it is an ATI chipset, use lspci
re-emerge ati-drivers, modprobe fglrx and add fglrx in the autoload file.

Still the same errors.
I changed the AIGLX from "off" to "false" and it still runs AIGLX. My errors remain...

Thanks to the help of the fine people in the #gentoo IRC, I have successfully disabled AIGLX and Composite. However, these two erros still remane...

Nvm. Gonna try to use Open Source ATI drivers on my card. They are in testing but they seem to work fine. I can boot into X just fine. However I have this error...

does anyone know howto enable "composite" ? i know i have to enable it in xorg.conf in order to get beryl-manager work, but wasnt there a keyword for xorg-server ? or any different package ? thx a lot _________________ I do not have a Superman complex, for I am God not Superman

you're confusing him more, if he's an ati user, he shouldn't use composite enabled in his xorg.conf.

Yeah, I am just going to say screw it for now, X is working well enough in 2d, and I will just have to enjoy AIGLX on my Desktop which has a much easier to use Nvidia card. Thank you for your help though, I really do appreciate it. |

How did you do it, i have actually a simmilay problem and i can not use XGL (it is too slow).
And for your problem, just remove drm, radeon and dri from your kernel (it will not work if one of them is enable). Then go to the amd website and install the driver from the official .run, i had the same problem and its how i solved it. |
