I'm sure it should know how to do this automatically but it doesn't seem to be.. Is there any way to tell firefox to open files/folders using the mime types listed in .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/ and .local/share/applications/? At the moment when I download something and try to open it or its containing folder through the downloads window it does nothing, and I'm unable to add file associations through the preferences menu. I'm using Xfce-4.4.0, just in case that's an issue. This happens for all firefox builds I've tried, I'm currently running 3.0a2. I guess this may also apply to other applications but I don't really have any that would want to open files this way.

Is Firefox also unable to set itself a default properly? I would check to see if you have desktop-file-utils installed.

desktop-file-utils is installed, tried reinstalling, and also downgrading to 0.11, but neither worked (also tried running update-desktop-database, no change). Firefox doesn't seem to do anything when I click the "Check Now" button the default browser thing. I also installed opera and it seems it's affected as well, same deal.

Last time It did nothing when trying to set as default i just made a new profile and that "solved" it. Never really dug around to find out witch file was responsible for that. It should at least give a message about already being default if things are ok.
