For anyone using gnome-experimental overlay, and requiring the gnome terminal transparency to work, the fixed vte is added now to xeffects overlay. layman -a xeffects to get it.
Cheers. _________________ If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".

Behind a FW may cause a problem. Have you had any problems with any other overalys using SVN? If not, then :
layman -d xeffects
layman -L
layman -a xeffects
If you still get a problem, it may be firewall related. Ensure your FW can allow SVN traffic. _________________ If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".

Could it be possible I never had any problem with the terminal being transparent?
Anyways..
I was wondering if everyone got the same problem: I lost my battery state icon (laptop) and I can't add any new icons to my panel _________________ OS: Linux 2.6.26 i686 Gentoo v2.0.0 Sound: HDA Intel

I too lost my battery state for my laptop. Haven't had a chance to fool with it to see what's wrong. I'll check when I get home, as I'm at work atm. _________________ System Specs:

Glad I'm not the only one
I recompiled gnome-applets but no solution. Maybe it isn't included yet?
Do you also have problems regarding adding new shortcuts to your bar?
EDIT: I just unplugged my AC adapter and a tooltip showed up over my "gnome-logo" startmenu telling me my laptop is unplugged and it'll now run on batterypower. _________________ OS: Linux 2.6.26 i686 Gentoo v2.0.0 Sound: HDA Intel

I don't mean to be nagging here, but once Gnome-2.18 hits ~arch, could the creation of a corresponding gnome-light ebuild be expedited? With 2.16 it took ages for it to appear... _________________ 0mFg, G3nt00 r0X0r$ T3h B1g!1111

I submitted the last gnome-light ebuild for 2.16, I'll likely submit another one once 2.18 hits the streets. It will be on bugzilla shortly _________________ arbiter_dev @ irc.freenode.net

have a look at the portage package.mask
Code: | less /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask |
Gnome-2.18.0 is moving into the official portage tree (a good thing)
To avoid downgrading your overlay installed packages try this tip from gentoo-wiki
Code: | sed -n '/The Great GNOME 2.18.0 mask/,/End of GNOME 2.18.0 mask/p' /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask >> /etc/portage/package.unmask |
now try emerge -pDu gnome _________________ I tried installing Suse Linux off the Internet. It got stuck in the middle somewhere.Installing off the Internet is for the birds. |

Thanks the unmasking worked.
I'm still going to rebuild gnome after it has hit ~arch. But not downgrade.
i.e. 2.18 (experimental) -> 2.18
instead of 2.18 (experimental) -> 2.16 -> 2.18
I just removed the gnome-experimental overlay and did a resync.
EDIT: The wiki page tj is referring to

First of all I want to say THANK YOU Gentoo Dev and Gnome-Experimental Maintainers!!!
You did and do a great Job handling the new Version of Gnome.
I am using it for a while now with no glitch!
I noticed that I am unable to run any of the Administration Applications (Dont have permissions) Only as root form the console.
How can I setup it to work?
I noticed that Ubuntu uses sudo??? But the password is saved for the whole session?
How can I make gtksu to automatically launch when I try one of those apps?
Thanks!

the whole Gnome 2.18 stuff is already masked in /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask
but the ebuilds are actually not in the portage tree.
@n3Cre0 do you really have the gnome 2.18 ebuilds in portage?? _________________ "cat /boot/vmlinuz > /dev/dsp" and god speaks to you |

No. I though I did since `google gentoo packages` showed they were added (hard-masked) to portage. But after removing the overlay and doing the necessary steps it still wanted to downgrade so I'll stay with the overlay for now
@guru369: Exactly the same here! (about sudo)
It worked in 2.16.0 but here I also get that messagebox telling me I can't access the settings. Yesterday I had to log in X as root just to change something.
Btw everything I start from the terminal gets this:
Quote: | (<program>:<number>): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed. |

just to add my experiences so far:
packages in portage: not at my PC so can't confirm but 99.9% sure I'm using the ebuilds in the overlay
root privileges for sys-admin stuff: same problem
gnupg circular dep: evolution-2.10 wants gnupg-2.0.3, seahorse wants gnupg-1.4.7
other than that seems to be working fine for me
n3Cre0: thanks for providing the gentoo-wiki link _________________ I tried installing Suse Linux off the Internet. It got stuck in the middle somewhere.Installing off the Internet is for the birds. |

No problem.
Yes I thought so too
http://packages.gentoo.org/daily/2007/03/24/
If you do a ctrl+f 2.18.0 you'll notice alot (if not all?) ebuilds for gnome 2.18.0 were added yesterday - 03/24/07

Is it me or does nothing on the System -> Administration menu in Gnome 2.18 work?
The GUI error reads:
Code: | The configuration could not be loaded
You are not allowed to access the system configuration. |
And running any of these apps from a console I get:
Code: | andrew@ziggy ~ $ users-admin
(users-admin:6824): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating with the backends: The name org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends was not provided by any .service files |
I noticed "gnome-system-tools" is at 2.18 but "system-tools-backends" is only at 2.1.3. It looks like system-tools-backends 2.2.0 is available on the Gnome FTP server.
What does the following commend in the ebuild actually mean?
Code: | elog "At this time, you won't be able to change anything"
elog "and don't try it, it will only make dbus crash"
elog "You have been warned !" |
There is also a patch applied to 2.13 to do with dbus permissions but it doesn't seem to work! _________________ 2.6.35 / Gnome 2.30
