running xorg at 1280x1024 I have to turn up the sensitvity on my mouse and this makes the transition from "idle" to active on the mouse very noticable.
when you move from mouse from a dead stop the laser has to turn on and this causes about a 0.4/0.3 milisecond delay which is unacceptable for high precision work or games.
is there any way you can trick the mouse into thinking its active all the time thus keeping the laser on?

I have a Logitech MX-600 cordless that exhibits this same behavior. I believe turning off the laser is a power saving feature so the batteries don't run down.

Note that this isn't a problem for me as I don't do anything where the lag causes a problem. I would be curious if anyone has a solution, though.

it's a microsoft laser mouse 6000 and I believe my laser is also turning off as a power saving feature.

all microsoft mice i've seen exhibit this behavior... its not turning the laser off per-se, but it does go into a lower-powered mode when the mouse is not in use. if you seriously want the light on all the time, you could stuff a hair in the laser, but that would cause accuracy problems.

i suppose you could rewrite the mouse's firmware, but i'm not sure if that violates any sort of rules/patents.

cheers
