I'm having a strange problem with my armada m300 Keyboard, whenever I try and start X I get a 3 to 30 seconds delay before fluxbox starts. During this delay the numlock, capslock and scroll lock led's will flash a number of times. Occasionaly the glidepoint will not start, and if I do a dmesg it shows me this error
Code:
Keyboard timed out[1]

The number of times that the led's flash on starting x corresponds with the number of times the error message is displayed in the dmesg output. The keyboard also works prefectly as soon as x decides to start.

I'm assuming that I have a kernel configuration problem, I also have redhat 8.0 installed and x starts without any problems. Redhat seems to load the keyboard/glidepoint differently on startup Redhat loads the keyboard/glidepoint as follows
Code:
mounting usb filesystem             [ok]
initialise USB HID Interface        [ok]
initialise USB Keyboard             [ok]
initialise USB Mouse                [ok]

If any one has any ideas on how I can stop these errors, or configure my install to load the keyboard and mouse as it's done in redhat, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
John

I don't have an answer but some observations. I have an armada M700 that does the exact same thing when I enable both the PS/2 (built in) mouse and the USB mouse. When I disable the PS/2 mouse and use only the USB mouse, the problem goes away. I used to have RH 8 installed before gentoo, and I too did not have the problem with RH8.

Hmm ... thinking ... IIRC, the redhat install had a lot more options specified for the keyboard in /etc/X11/XF86Config than I do under gentoo. I wonder if one of these options resolves the problem. You could try that. I don't have the original RH config anymore or I would try now.

If this works, please let me know so that I can do this also. Otherwise, anyone else have any ideas?

I did try using the keyboard section from the Redhat XF86Config, with no luck thats what makes me think it's not an XFree problem...
Also I'm not using an external USB keyboard/mouse, Redhat seemed to be detecting the laptops keyboard and glidepoint as USB devices.

Thanks anyway

I have a Compaq Armada M700 which behaved the same way upon starting X. Using an external mouse or reverting down to Xfree 4.2.1 was not something I wanted to do. I googled around a bit and found some info.

http://xfree86.linuxwiki.org/mouse_2fKnownIssues

You can download the binary that is linked there, then follow this process:
    # cd /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input
    # cp -p mouse_drv.o mouse_drv.o.ORIG
    # mv /place/you/downloaded/new/mouse_drv.o mouse_drv.o
    # chown root:root mouse_drv.o
    # chmod 755 mouse_drv.o

The original thread I read to find the above link was:
