okay this time I pulled the power plug from the other (Windows) harddrive,
so that the install would automatically NOT install Grub on the Windows drive.
Now Grub installs on the same drive as the Linux OS.
After about a half-hour to an hour, the installation is complete.
Everything goes smoothly. I set up user accounts and passwords, as well as the root password.
The drive has no trouble booting, and a verbose bootup shows no errors at all, everything is [OK].
Except one thing:
Activating EVMS.......[!!]
Error activating EVMS....
I don't know what that is, but everything else goes fine. [OK] ...[OK] etc.
Now I get to the logon dialogue box. It seems to be working.
But it has a heading: Insecure Session (!)
I don't know or care what that means, I just want to sign on:
There is a Name field and Password field, plus graphic to the right.
I try any account, and the password is accepted.
I know the passwords are right, and recognized, because if I type in a wrong password,
I simply get the password error, and no screen flash or any other activity.
If I type in the correct password for any account, the password is accepted,
then the screen goes black, there are a couple of quick flickers or flashes,
and then I'm right back at the Logon dialogue box, as though I hadn't signed in.
Ouch! WHy can't I get past this and into Linux and the GUI and Gnome?
It makes no difference whether I install gnome or KDE.
Help me here what am I doing wrong? |
