Finally skype-1.3.0.53 is not masked in portage so I thought that I can get it to work on my amd64. But I couldn't. It plays all the sounds, e.g if I'm chatting, but if I'm diallin someone, or even the test call service, it rings, and when the conversation should begin, I got a "Problem with sound device" error.
Any ideas what the problem could be? By the way, I have nvidia onboard soundcard, which I think it isn't fully supported by alsa, but with skype 1.2 everything works well (except that any other applications can't play sounds, when I'm using skype)

i had some issues with skype too... that "Problem with sound device" might be another program using the sound card, which was my case... (so you better close others).
Then you might run onto another problem with the microphone ...there's a patch for this "skype_dsp_hijacker-0.7" i don't know where i got it from ... look it up on a search engine :-) good luck!

Thanks, cobralgato. I think it's a microphone problem, because every sound works as far as the microphone is not in use (even when other applications plays sounds as well). So I'll try to find the patch you wrote about it.

If you use dmix, you may have to modify your configuration file a bit - I use the following as /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc:
Code:

pcm.!default {
   type plug
   slave.pcm "duplex"
}

pcm.duplex {
   type asym
   playback.pcm "dmixer"
   capture.pcm "hw:0,0"
}

pcm.dmixer {
   type dmix
   ipc_key 1024
   slave {
      pcm "hw:0,0"
      period_time 0
      period_size 2048
      buffer_size 32768
      rate 48000
   }
   bindings {
      0 0
      1 1
   }
}

ctl.dmixer {
   type hw
   card 0
   device 0
}

Hope it helps.
