I was upgrading a kerberos server to fix a posted CERT warning and possible time change problems, and I've been having a problem that I can't resolve ever since the upgrade. I am using mit-krb5-1.5.2, and now that it is installed, I can't start the key distribution center from the script. /etc/init.d/mit-krb5kdc start produces the error message "krb5kdc cannot initialize realm CHEM.UCLA.EDU - see log file for details." The log file /var/log/krb5kdb.log contains the more or less useless line "krb5kdc: No such file or directory - while initializing database for realm CHEM.UCLA.EDU."
I'd say that I misconfigured something except that if I just run /usr/sbin/krb5kdc and /usr/sbin/kadmind, they both start and run without a problem. My production kerberos server is running in this messed up condition where the scripts won't start the services, and I have to run them by hand. I thought that maybe the baselayout of the production server became corrupted during the upgrade, so I started to rebuild the kerberos server on new hardware but have exactly the same problem.
Right now, I'm running a clean installation that I just built with clean installations and builds of the software necessary for kerberos, but I have exactly the same problem.
Does anyone know why the start scripts won't start the services when running the services by hand works?
Thanks. |
