Siccome non ero sicuro del fatto che si trattasse di un bug... e siccome non sapevo come e dove riportarlo nel caso lo fosse stato....
vi posto qui la mia esperienza.
In pratica dopo aver unmaskato il pacchetto e aver tentato di compilarlo mi dava questo errore:

Support for unicode in wxWidgets is required by aMule.
To continue you must recompile wxWidgets with support for
unicode enabled (with the --enable-unicode flag). If this
still doesn't work, chances are you are using GTK1, which
has no unicode support. You must use the --enable-gtk2 flag
on wxWidgets configure script then.

nonostante le mie librerie wxGTK fossero compilate con la flag unicode..
se però specifico USE="unicode" nel comando di emerge del pacchetto quest'ultimo viene compilato correttamente.
quindi in teoria amule-2.2.0 richiede necessariamente che le librerie wxWidgets siano compilate con supporto unicode... mentre l'ebuild permette il tentativo di compilazione anche senza.. e come opzione aggiuntiva....
imho andrebbe specificata come use flag di default. |

Questo bug sembra riportare un problema simile al tuo.
Con che USE flag hai compilato wxGTK (posta un emerge -pv wxGTK)?
Con che USE flag cerchi di compilare amule (posta un emerge -pv amule)?
