However the AMD64 minimal install CD hangs at scanning for sata_sil. If I run it with nosata enabled, the installer picks up the sata drive as a scsi drive at sda1 and then hangs. any suggestions? I can get to a command line with the nodetect option, but I'm not sure how to get things moving from there.

If any other LiveCD can boot without nodetect, then you can run lsmod from that LiveCD to get an idea of what modules you'll need. Then, boot the install cd with nodetect, and run modprobe as needed to get all your hardware detected. Once you've done that, you should be able to continue normally. |
